Horizon Campus launches island-wide Regional Centre network
Horizon Campus declared open two of the eight Regional Study Centres of our island-wide branch network to offer Diploma and Degree programs and qualifications to a wider student population who live outside Colombo.
Students will now have the luxury of completing some of our accredited Degree programs by studying closer to their homes. Horizon Campus’ Kalutara Regional Centre was declared open by Horizon Group Chairman, Mr. Upul Daranagama and the Kalutara Regional Director, Dr. Mudith Mewan on Thursday 20th July 2017 and the Kandy Regional Centre was opened on Friday 21st July 2017 also by Horizon Group Chairman, Mr. Upul Daranagama and the Kandy Regional Director, Dr. Maheshini Mawalagedara.
The other six Regional Centres of Horizon Campus will be launched in Matara, Kurunegala, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Ratnapura and Negombo during the months of July and August 2017.
All Regional Centers include spacious Classrooms, Lecture theatres, Auditoriums, Biology, Chemistry & Physics Labs, Computer Labs, Libraries, Student Recreational areas and other contemporary amenities.

Congratulations Ann Deluxy ! Ann Deluxy is an undergraduate of B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology programme conducted by Faculty of Science-Horizon Campus in affiliation with Nilai University, Malaysia. Recently, she presented her research findings at “Asia-Pacific Conference on Multidisciplinary Research 2017 (APMR2017)” under the track “Physical and Life Science” and received the second place for the BEST ORAL PRESENTATION (student category). Title: Nutritional Improvement of Yoghurt using Seaweeds Authors: Ann, Ravikumar1; Shanika, Gamage2; Kankaniarachchige, Dananjaya3 1,2,3 Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science, Horizon Campus, Sri Lanka.
She has successfully completed her research as a partial fulfilment of the requirements of B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology. She has invented a new yogurt product enriched with seaweeds. Although seaweeds are abundantly found in the coastal areas of Sri Lanka and are rich in nutrients like protein, fiber and essential fatty acids; there is only limited evidence of using them as an ingredient in commercial food productions, especially in yogurt like popular food items. She incorporated one of these seaweed species into yogurt and found that the nutritional levels of yogurt can be enhanced when compared to the yogurt products commercially available in Sri Lankan market. With these findings she further recommends that this enriched yogurt product can be presented as a “Functional food” (those containing factors to ensure or enhance health) with the considerable amounts of fiber and Omega-3 essential fatty acids contained in it. With the hands-on experience she gained through the research in the field of “Food Science and Technology”, she is currently working as an intern in one of the leading food manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka.

Dr Mihira Wanninayake, Recognized at the President’s Awards.
In appreciation of the contribution towards the development of Scientific domain in the country, Dr Mihira Wanninayake was recently recognised at the President’s Awards for Scientific Publication submitted during 2015. The President’s Awards for Scientific Publication are given to Sri Lankan scientists who achieve a publication in the top 10% of Science Citation Index Expanded journals (ranked on their Impact Factor under each journal category based on SCI categorization of journals) or two or more publications in a Science Citation Index Expanded journal with an Impact Factor of 1 or more, in the given year.
Dr Mihira Wanninayake obtained his BSc Degree from University of Peradeniya in 2009. Subsequently, he completed his Masters Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the University of Peradeniya in 2011, followed by the completion of Ph. D in 2016. Dr Wanninayake has published many manuscripts in Science Index Journals and had attended over twenty conferences and proceedings.
